Savion Saint-Prix ‘22 Spreads Support for Neurodiversity

Recently, Live Oak hosted a screening of the documentary From Stigma to Strength: The Neurodiversity Project for middle school students. The screening was led by the film’s director, local high school senior Ivy Kilar, and Savion Saint-Prix, a 2022 Live Oak graduate and current high school sophomore who is one of the featured interviewees. Through the stories of several young adults, the film focuses on neurodiversity awareness, appreciation, and advocacy, and seeks to reduce the stigma that often surrounds neurodiversity.
Ivy opened the screening by defining neurodiversity and talking about what led her to make the film. Both Ivy and Sav shared openly about their own experiences as neurodivergent students and why they have taken on advocacy around the topic. After watching the 30-minute documentary, students shared their reactions and questions about the film, and several also talked about their own diagnoses and how the film made them feel seen and mirrored some of their experiences. It was inspiring to see Ivy and Sav as young changemakers who are looking to impact the world around them. Use the link above to access and watch the film in its entirety.

Our alumni leave Live Oak with a strong sense of purpose toward effecting positive change in their communities.
